How to Choose a Seller on AliExpress: Rating, Reviews, Red Flags and Seller Check
During shopping on AliExpress, we usually pay attention to the characteristics of the product, the price, and the terms and cost of delivery. Sometimes, however, we overlook an important nuance such as to choosing the right seller on AliExpress. This platform consists of hundreds of thousands of stores. Some specialize in specific brands or product categories, others sell a variety of items. Some sellers work honestly and care about their customers, while others may resort to deception or carelessly handle an order, sending a wrong model or defective product, or even a deck of cards instead of a phone, for example.
The seller on AliExpress determines what you receive and how quickly, how well the product is packaged, and whether your dispute will be satisfactorily and fully resolved if something goes wrong. Therefore, it’s crucial to pay proper attention when choosing a store. Let’s consider the parameters that help determine a reliable seller.

How to choose a seller on AliExpress (60-second checklist)
Before you buy, quickly check:
- Product page reviews with real photos/videos (not only store rating)
- Order volume for the exact item/variant (color/size/version)
- Seller history (how long the store has been active)
- Shipping reliability (recent reviews mention delivery speed and tracking)
- Final checkout price (item + shipping) and whether the “discount” looks real
If 2–3 points look suspicious, compare another seller for the same item.
Should you buy from this AliExpress seller?
| Signal | Good sign | Warning sign | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product reviews | Many recent photo reviews | Reviews are old, short or identical | Read negative reviews first |
| Product rating | 4.7+ with many orders | 5.0 with only 3 orders | Do not trust rating alone |
| Store age | 1–2+ years | New store with expensive items | Check more carefully |
| Order volume | Stable sales for this listing | Very few orders | Compare other sellers |
| Price | Similar to market average | Much cheaper than everyone else | Check price history and reviews |
| Shipping | Recent buyers mention normal delivery | Many complaints about tracking | Choose another seller |
| Communication | Clear and normal answers | Pushy, vague or asks for outside payment | Avoid |
| Discount | Confirmed by price history | “Huge” discount after price increase | Wait or compare |
Can you trust AliExpress stores?
Yes, many AliExpress stores are reliable. Some sellers have worked for years, protect their reputation and solve problems quickly because repeat customers matter to them. But AliExpress is a marketplace, not one single store. Different sellers can offer the same product with very different quality, packaging, shipping speed and customer service. That is why I do not judge only by the product photo. I check the seller behind it.
Seller’s Rating

The seller’s rating is displayed in the top left corner when you hover over the line with information about the AliExpress seller. However, there is little information there. And stores can inflate this rating. Besides, to see this rating, you need to visit the page of each store that interests you.
An objective detailed rating of the seller on AliExpress according to 5 criteria can be shown by the free browser extension AliHelper. It will help you find a reliable seller on Aliexpress.

Here is the rating of the same seller, which you can view right in the card of the product you’re interested in. AliHelper also helps you track packages and discounts, shows the price change graph, similar products, etc.

Store rating vs product rating (don’t confuse these)
A high store rating doesn’t always mean every listing is safe. Some stores have strong overall ratings but a few weak listings (different batches, suppliers, or variants).
Always judge the specific product listing: recent photo reviews, orders, and consistent feedback about quality and shipping.
Duration on AliExpress

Some AliExpress stores appear quickly, sell aggressively and disappear just as quickly. Of course, not every newcomer should be suspected, but all factors should be considered collectively. However, being on the platform for up to six months may indicate that the seller has re-registered because their rating has dropped or may resort to various fraudulent schemes because they have nothing to lose. On the other hand, a store registered several years ago with a high rating is very likely trustworthy.
Sales Volume, Product Reviews, and Ratings

These parameters should be considered together to choose a seller on AliExpress. If a product has a 5/5 rating, but only three people have bought it, that is not strong proof that the seller or product is reliable. On the other hand, if a product has been purchased 9.5 thousand times and has a rating of 4.4/5 (preferably not lower than 4.5), it’s worth reading the reviews. Unfortunately, some buyers may misunderstand the product or use it incorrectly, make a mistake in its functionality, take revenge on the seller for some subjective reason, or vent on them for difficulties with the courier, delivery service, collection point, or post office manager.
Also, be cautious if there are fewer than 20% of reviews compared to the number of purchases, but the rating is high. This could be a sign of manipulation.

Red flags: when to avoid a seller
| Red flag | Why it matters | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Price is far below other sellers | Higher risk of fake listing, low quality, or missing parts | Compare 2–3 sellers and check photo reviews |
| Many reviews look identical | Possible review manipulation | Filter to recent reviews with photos/videos |
| Few recent orders for a “popular” item | Risk of unstable supply or bait-and-switch | Choose a listing with steady recent orders |
| Seller asks to pay outside AliExpress | You lose buyer protection | Never pay outside the platform; report/avoid |
| Tracking doesn’t update for a long time (repeated complaints) | Shipping risk | Prefer sellers with stable delivery feedback |
Store specialization
A specialized store is often easier to judge than a store that sells everything from phone cases to fishing rods and baby socks.
For specific products, I prefer sellers who clearly understand their niche:
- electronics accessories;
- children’s clothing;
- art supplies;
- fishing gear;
- car parts;
- craft materials;
- Xiaomi-compatible devices.
A specialized store is not automatically perfect, but it often gives you better product descriptions, clearer variants and more relevant reviews.
Communication with the Seller on AliExpress
If you plan to order an expensive or important item for you, or if you have questions, don’t hesitate to communicate with the seller. Of course, the willingness to answer questions quickly and politely is not a sign of honesty. However, this will help assess their adequacy and professionalism, check how responsive the store representative is, and how they respond to your questions. The seller’s answer can help you decide whether the store looks professional, the easier it will be to find a seller on AliExpress rationally.
Ask short, specific questions:
Hello! I want to order this item, but I need to confirm: is this the [model/version/color/size] shown in the photos?
Hello! Does this item include [accessory/part]? Please confirm before I place the order.
Hello! Can you ship this item with tracking to [country]? I need it before [date]. Is this realistic?
If the seller cannot answer a simple question before payment, I do not expect poetry after a problem.
Which AliExpress Seller Is Better to Buy From?
I would choose a seller who has:
- several years on AliExpress;
- many recent orders for the exact product;
- real photo reviews;
- clear product variants;
- normal shipping feedback;
- no repeated complaints about wrong items;
- realistic pricing;
- clear answers to questions;
- good seller rating in AliExpress and AliHelper;
- no requests to pay or communicate outside the platform.
The best seller is not always the cheapest. The best seller is the one least likely to turn your order into a dispute.

How to Avoid Scammers
- Gather all possible information about AliExpress sellers you plan to purchase from. Of course, this is mainly about important or expensive acquisitions. Some electronics, spare parts, and components are sold only by individual sellers or in limited quantities, and in this case, it is especially important to make the right choice immediately;
- Carefully study the reviews. Focus on the negative feedback. Analyze how objective the complaints are. Consider how critical the shortcomings encountered by some customers are personally for you. For instance, if you see that several people complain that they received an item of the wrong color or size, do not hesitate to contact the seller to clarify that it is important for you to own a product with a specific feature or configuration;
- Try to choose a store that has been registered on the site for at least a year and has a good rating on AliExpress and in AliHelper;
- Do not agree if the seller asks you to perform some unusual action (for example, send money somewhere to purchase a product at a discount; not open a dispute when the seller’s protection expires, etc.). A seller who asks for this is not protecting your interests.
What does “Official Store” mean?
“Official Store” labels can indicate a brand presence, but it’s still smart to verify:
- recent photo reviews
- order volume
- clear product variants and specs
- realistic pricing
Treat it as a positive signal—not a guarantee.
How to Distinguish Real Discounts from Fake Ones
Even if you have managed to identify a seller who is reliable in all aspects, you should also find out whether they are offering you a fake discount on a specific product. AliHelper can also help you with this.
1. Go to the card of the desired product and look at the price before the discount. For example, a store offers a smartphone that supposedly once cost $349.23, with a 29% discount;

2. Open the “Price change” section in AliHelper. In our case, it is evident that the smartphone never cost more than $294, and usually, it can be bought for $201. The seller is only making the discount look generous;

3. If you see that the price was lower before than it is now, and you want to buy this product more profitably, click on the “+ Monitor the price” button. When the price drops again, you will receive a notification.
Now you know how to choose a seller on AliExpress in 2026, from whom it is better to purchase. Study each one before placing an order. Choose sellers carefully, check the real price and let your AliExpress orders be boring in the best possible way: paid, shipped, delivered and exactly as described.
Product reviews (especially recent photo reviews) matter more for your exact item.
No. Paying outside AliExpress can remove buyer protection. Ask the seller to adjust the order within AliExpress or cancel.
Compare 2–3 sellers, check the final checkout total (including shipping), and look at price history if you can.
Message the seller first, but don’t wait until the protection window ends—open a dispute if there’s no progress.
Check recent product reviews, real photos, order volume, store age, seller rating, shipping feedback, price history and red flags. Do not rely on one signal only.
Product reviews matter more for the exact item you want to buy. A store can have a good rating, but one weak product listing.
No. A new store is not automatically bad, but you should check it more carefully, especially for expensive items.
Only if the item is cheap and low-risk. For expensive products, choose a listing with real reviews and recent orders.
No. It is a positive signal, but not a guarantee. Still check reviews, order volume, product variants and price history.
The biggest red flag is any request to pay, refund, communicate or solve problems outside AliExpress.

I have ordered from a seller with 91% high trust on alihelper, paid the item, and after that the seller told me the item is out of stock. It is the first time I have encountered this, and I have trusted alihelper. This is a first – alihelper is not good either.
AliHelper is a guide not a guarantee. They’re meant to be a tool to give you more confidence and narrow down your research, but you STILL need to USE DILLIGENCE.
